That’s exactly what they told us at the time and said it was foolish to set up your own business trading in piercing jewellery. You couldn’t support a young family like we had at that time. We didn’t care, we believed in it and did it! Today, a lot of other people live from it. From our company to countless piercing and tattoo studios and their employees. Stealthily, a very successful economic sector has developed. Good thing! And we don’t mean the economic success, but the fact that more and more people are not only looking for happiness, but also find it in making themselves more individual – and also more colourful!
The beginning
John Donoghue founded Wildcat in England in 1989. Driven by the idea that people can emphasize their special character through special body jewelry, and inspired by the life of wild cats, which is strong and independent. John thus coined an attitude to life that seemed exotic at the time. He invented typical pieces of jewelry such as the Fleshtunnel, the Smooth Segment Ring or Microbell – items that are now an integral part of our product range. So is the subject of piercing in and of itself. In the course of time it became more and more popular, so that today quite a lot of people enjoy it. Surely one of the successes of Wildcat.
Today
A lot has happened since 1989. Wildcat got German support from Ida and Martin Siedler. Without question another milestone. What started in Essen in 1996 in a house with 5 employees has now grown far beyond all borders. Wildcat now employs over 120 people in its headquarters in Gronau, the service teams, logistics, production in southern Germany and its 5 own stores. The product range comprises over 30,000 products, and they are available almost worldwide: 56 country distributors at present.
Always
But what really has never changed and will never change: our quest for improvement. From the beginning, Wildcat has stood for high quality. This was not always easy. Special, patented processes and our own production helped us achieve a breakthrough in titanium jewellery, for example. Sometimes it took completely new inventions, such as Healium, to make a vision come true. In any case, the results are impressive. Just like all the other products around it, which makes Wildcat an “all-round outfitter” for individualists.
